U.S. Chamber of Commerce Only Fooling Themselves

Latest 'Study' Attempts to Deceive Public, Remove Rights
Wednesday, April 25, 2007

MADISON - Robert Jaskulski, President of the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers released the following statement today regarding the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's latest bogus 'study'.

"This phony study is yet another attempt by the national mouthpiece of drug, big oil, and insurance companies to distort the facts and bend the truth to further their own interests.

"The latest so-called study asked a group of corporate lawyers, people whose sole purpose is to block the average person's ability to hold corporations accountable for wrongdoing, what they think about the civil justice system.  Guess what?  They don't want to be held accountable.

"No one listens to a convicted criminal who complains about being sentenced to jail. Why should anyone listen to a big drug company complaining about action taken when people are seriously injured or killed due to their negligence?

"The strategies, tactics and motives of the Chamber are suspect to say the least and in no way benefit the average citizen.  Today's announcement by the Chamber and their continued assault on consumer rights demonstrates big businesses and bad corporate actors firm position against the public in this debate.  As an organization we will continue to stand up against even the most powerful wrongdoers on behalf of all Wisconsin citizens."
