Notice is hereby given that the following proposed amendment to the By-Laws of the Wisconsin Association for Justice, Inc. will be submitted to a vote of the membership at a Special Meeting of the members on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at The Landmark Resort and Conference Center, Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. The following language is being added.
ARTICLE XIV – WOMEN’S CAUCUS
Section 1. - Eligibility
A section of WAJ composed of women lawyers shall be established within the Association. The name of the section shall be "The WAJ Women’s Caucus." All new or active women members of WAJ shall automatically be enrolled as members of the WAJ Women’s Caucus.
Section 2. - Policy
This section shall have no authority to formulate or disseminate policy, to take a public position on a public issue or to obligate or attempt to obligate WAJ without prior written approval from the WAJ Executive Committee.
Section 3. - Appointments
The Executive Committee shall confer any rights, benefits and privileges of section membership under this bylaw, as well as approve additional requirements for membership in this unit. The Executive Committee of WAJ shall have the authority to expand or contract the organizational structure of the Women’s Caucus. The President-Elect of WAJ shall serve as the director of the Women’s Section and shall report regarding it to the Executive Committee of WAJ. The President-Elect of WAJ, in consultation with the members of the Women’s Caucus, shall appoint members in good standing of the WAJ Women’s Caucus to serve as chairperson and vice-chairperson of the section. The President-Elect of WAJ, in consultation with the members of the WAJ Women’s Caucus, shall have the authority to appoint members in good standing of the WAJ Women’s Caucus to serve on the WAJ Program and Seminar Committee, the Verdict Committee and the Membership Committee. These appointments shall be made at the time of each annual meeting of WAJ.
