Attorney George Curtis
Receives President's Award
from Wisconsin Association for Justice
Oshkosh Attorney George W Curtis recently received the President's Award from the Wisconsin Association for Justice (WAJ). Curtis has been named a Super Lawyer by Milwaukee Magazine for many years and is past president of WAJ.
“George has been a zealous advocate for the injured people who have retained him,” said former WAJ President Mike End. “He is a legend in his area of practice in the Oshkosh area.”
Practicing law since 1962, Curtis served as WAJ treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president between 1984 and 1987. He is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, a fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation, and a former member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Board of Governors.
He explained why he entered the field of personal injury law, and has stayed with it.
“Most citizens of ordinary means who are victims of unsafe products or negligence are helpless except for contingent fee lawyers willing to fight and finance the battle for justice, while taking the chance of not being paid,” Curtis said.
“Basically, there’s nobody else doing this work…in the Legislature, the administrative agencies, and the courtrooms,” he added. “It’s been the same on-going battle in the 50 years I’ve been involved.”
Curtis created a local cable access TV program called “It’s Your Law” on which he interviews guests and discusses important legal and political issues. He has interviewed five Wisconsin governors and many other guests, including legislators and WAJ members for the program.
Born in Merrill, Wisconsin, Curtis now lives southwest of Oshkosh, where his law practice is located. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota, and his J.D degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is married, and has eight children and two step-children
